Prothalamion

I’ve finished my broadside…it took so long to composite and proof but finally, it’s completed. I printed the piece in a dark purple on a Vandercook Press. I also used three kinds of paper to print on, two handmade (from abaca and cotton rag) and also a Mohawk. I can’t wait to give these away as gifts.
Also, I have three fun projects coming up too that I can’t wait to post about. A friend asked me to design a text tattoo, another needs bachelorette party invites designed and silkscreened and the third is to design calling cards for the musician Matt Sucich! I’ve got some great ideas brewing and can’t wait to see how they turn out.
Here are some pictures of the final project!
National Stationery Show!

It’s that time of year…when hundreds of paper crafters roll into the Javits Center for the yearly stationery show. It was lively yesterday but much smaller in scale then years past. I didn’t take any pictures but I had a great time speaking to many designers, illustrators and printmakers. Here’s a list of my personal favorites from the day. This was determined by conversation and display 😉
Ink + Wit – Upstate NY
Red Cap Cards – LA
Chewing the Cud – The SF Bay Area
Rifle Paper Company – FL
Fly Bird Press – CA
Enormous Champion – Brooklyn
Two Trick Pony – Boston
Kautumn – CA (hair accessory design)

Banner Project…

I was hired to do a duel 30th Birthday party for two old friends. I was fortunate enough to do the invitations and the event design for Ji Young and Trina, two very special ladies. It was a girlie sea-faring affair in Long Beach Island, New Jersey. The menu was seafood, of course, for a dockside sunset dinner. I chose super feminine colors, like pastel pinks, blues, greens and yellows for these two and screen printed the table cloth with lobsters, made lobster bibs, and custom made napkins with each lady’s initials as place cards. I used salt water taffy and cupcake papers and many other girlie things as embellishments. The first project I started with was a simple “Happy Birthday” Banner. More on this party after it happens!
I used Kraft paper stock and cut out triangles for each letter. Washi tape lined each triangle and I used acrylic paint to write the message.
Paper Making

I’ve always loved paper, the texture, the smell, the weight, the fibers and what you can do with it. This has translated into a love of all things paper ephemera like invitations and party favors. Years ago, I visited a paper making mill in Southern India and was mesmerized. I finally decided to take a course at Carriage House Paper in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with Shannon. I was so inspired by the class I made my own home studio. It’s a bit messy but so very satisfying. Here are so pictures of the class. I even embedded some of my cherry blossom pedals from my tree…
